Species Diversity and Community Structure of Macrobenthos in the Ulleung Basin, East Sea, Republic of Korea

The Ulleung Basin of the East Sea is a biological hotspot, but studies on macrobenthos therein are lacking. To evaluate species diversity and community structure in Basin, we conducted survey from 2017 to 2021. A total 262 was detected by survey, average habitat density 243 individuals/m2. biomass 43.7 g/m2, Shannon Wiener’s index 2.3 (0.69–3.61). dominant were polychaetes Terebellides horikoshii, Chaetozone setosa, Scalibregma inflatum, Aglaophamus sp. bivalvia Axinopsida subquadrata. differed according water depth, correlation analysis using environmental variables showed that affected temperature, salinity, dissolved oxygen. macrobenthic fauna greatly influenced sedimentary environment different, also different. In addition, there little seasonal change compared coast. Our findings will facilitate further investigation benthic ecosystems throughout Sea.
